CRCSD Alert - This is a message to all families and staff in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. The start of classes will be DELAYED by TWO HOURS for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, because of the forecasted weather conditions. There will be no morning half day preschool, but full-day preschool at Truman Early Learning Center will be DELAYED by TWO HOURS tomorrow. Thank you.

Cedar Rapids Community School District students, which includes Metro students, must earn at least 40 credit hours in grades 9 – 12 to qualify for a diploma.  Metro has a variable credit system. With the current 4 period block schedule used at Metro High School, students can earn one credit hour for each class every quarter. Students receive updated credit at the end of each quarter.  

Quarter 1: August 23 – October 21, 2022
Quarter 2: October 24 – January 6, 2023
Quarter 3: January 11 – March 24, 2023
Quarter 4: March 27 – May 31, 2023

Credit hours required for graduation need to include these minimum subject area requirements:

  • English language arts: 8 credit hours
  • Mathematics: 6 credit hours
  • Science: 6 credit hours (Earth Science 1 & 2, Biology 1 & 2, Physical Science Chemistry & Physical Science Physics)
  • Social studies: 6 credit hours (World History 1 & 2, US History 1 & 2, Economics, and Government)
  • Physical education/health/wellness: 4 credit hours
  • Elective courses: 10 credit hours

Each student’s advisor is involved with monitoring credit earning and progress toward meeting graduation requirements. If you have questions regarding credits/graduation progress, please contact your advisor or Dan Walsh.
