Chickenstock 2021 was held Friday, September 24, 2021. Since our opening in 1974, Metro High School has held an annual Day of Caring event. In 2001, this event became known as “Chickenstock”, in memory of former Metro staff person, James “Chicken” Maddox who passed away in March 2000. Chicken was very involved with volunteering in the Cedar Rapids community, particularly with Jane Boyd Community House and youth sports.

We started our day with a special breakfast prepared by staff and students and then Metro staff and students volunteered for the following organizations:

  • Horizons – Meals on Wheels
  • Adopt-A-Highway
  • Feed Iowa First
  • Willis Dady Center
  • Especially For You Race Against Breast Cancer
  • History Center
  • Gems of Hope
  • Neighborhood Litter Blitz
