In Heather & Ann’s Language Arts class, students engaged in the real-life application of Language Arts standards in reading and writing related to citing evidence and supporting an argument with evidence and reasons; students analyzed unsolved cases in Iowa and Cedar Rapids and worked to find evidence in a variety of sources to support an argument for a possible solution to each case. One of the cases that students studied is related to the 1979 homicide of Michelle Martinko, a Kennedy High School student. This case was cold for 39 years until solved in recent years by Investigator Matt Denlinger from the Cedar Rapids Police Department. Investigator Denlinger visited Heather & Ann’s class at Metro High School to talk with students about the case and his work in the Cold Case Unit.
